Wawa recalls 22,000 milk units after plastic contamination discovered in production

Wawa has recalled nearly 22,000 units of four milk products after plastic material was found during production. The affected items were sold in New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. So far, no illnesses or injuries have been linked to the recall.

The recall covers 16oz (pint) plastic containers of Wawa-branded reduced fat milk 2%, Double Dutch Chocolate Milk, Cookies & Cream Milk, and Chocolate low-fat milk. Only products with code dates between March 2 and March 5, 2026, are affected. The UPC codes for these items are 0072619101438, 007261910, 0072619015158, and 00726191014908.

The FDA has classified this as a Class II recall, meaning the issue could cause temporary or reversible health problems. If swallowed, plastic shards might lead to choking or injuries in the mouth, throat, or digestive tract. However, the source of the plastic—whether inside the products or on production lines—remains unclear. This is not the first recent recall for Wawa. In February 2024, the company pulled 13 milk products over Listeria concerns, mainly sold in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Florida. Last month, a separate nationwide recall involved rice and ramen products contaminated with glass shards.

Customers who bought the recalled milk products should check the code dates and UPC numbers. The company has not yet confirmed how the plastic entered production. For now, no injuries have been reported, but the FDA continues to monitor the situation.
