Der Spiegel revamps online content with daily lifestyle and advice features

Der Spiegel has expanded its online offerings with daily special features focused on practical advice and lifestyle topics. The move replaces the Weekender section and introduces new themes designed to engage a broader audience. Each feature is given a full day of prominence on the magazine’s homepage. In September 2024, Der Spiegel first launched six special sections: Work, Money, Health & Fitness, Loveletter, Weekender, and 11 Freunde. These were later refined, with Family and Travel replacing the Weekender to better address everyday concerns. The Family section now covers relationships, parenting, children, and friendships, while Travel provides destination guides, travel stories, planning tips, and advice for life on the move.

The long-form reports once published under the Weekender banner now appear as 'The Big Story' on the website. Each special feature remains behind a paywall, but a free daily newsletter helps direct readers to the latest content. Editor-in-chief Dirk Kurbjuweit explained that the magazine’s core mission has not changed, but these additions offer practical guidance and engaging reads on topics that shape daily life. The new sections aim to attract wider readership by delivering actionable advice and lifestyle insights. They rotate daily, ensuring regular fresh content for visitors. The shift reflects Der Spiegel’s effort to blend its traditional journalism with more practical, reader-focused material.
