Norway's World Cup team fuels up with half a tonne of elite seafood

Norway’s national football team chef, Aron Espeland, has brought half a tonne of premium Norwegian seafood to the US for the World Cup. The selection includes salmon, trout, king crab and other delicacies to support the players’ performance and recovery. Espeland will prepare four meals each day for over 60 people during the tournament. The menu features salmon, trout, saithe, Arctic char, turbot, halibut, king crab, snow crab and langoustines. These dishes are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, B12 and D, selenium, iron and zinc.

High protein content in seafood helps repair muscles on rest days. Zinc aids healing, while iron combats post-match fatigue. Omega-3 also reduces inflammation, speeding up recovery. Optimal vitamin D levels are vital for muscle strength, injury prevention and immune support.

Meanwhile, Norway and France are long-standing rivals in the Bocuse d’Or culinary competition. Norway holds 13 medals, while France has 12. Christian André Pettersen, Norway’s entrant, respects France’s culinary skills but insists Norwegian seafood is the best in the world. The team’s diet will rely on nutrient-rich seafood to enhance performance and recovery. The chef’s carefully planned meals aim to keep players at their peak throughout the tournament. Norway’s culinary pride and athletic preparation are on full display at the World Cup.
