Primorsky Krai food safety checks reveal Listeria and chemical violations

Food safety inspectors in Primorsky Krai have identified multiple violations in recent tests. Between 25 and 29 May, officials conducted 8,591 checks on food and feed products. Several batches failed to meet safety standards due to contamination and excessive chemical levels. Rosselkhoznadzor inspectors discovered five violations across five separate batches. These included snow crab legs, pork, apples, and oranges, totalling 127.4 metric tons. The issues ranged from excessive pesticide levels to elevated mercury content.

A batch of cold-smoked flounder also tested positive for Listeria. The contaminated seafood weighed 4.6 kg and was produced at a local processing plant. This marks the fifth confirmed case of Listeria in seafood from Primorsky Krai this year.

The contamination likely resulted from breaches in production technology or improper storage conditions. Listeria is a harmful pathogen known to cause serious foodborne illnesses. The violations involved both microbiological and chemical hazards. Affected products have been flagged for failing to meet Eurasian Economic Union technical regulations. Authorities continue to monitor food safety in the region.
