Winnipeg's Youth Outreach Cooks Up Warmth Amid Blizzard Chaos

Winnipeg experienced its first blizzard of the year, with heavy snowfall blanketing the city. Amid the storm, West Broadway Youth Outreach continued its weekly programme for local children. Every Wednesday night, the organisation hosts cooking sessions to teach kids healthy eating habits and basic culinary skills. On this particular evening, the group prepared a vegetarian lasagna adapted by Kelsey Dewis from a recipe by Joanne and Adam Gallagher at Inspired Taste.

The dish serves between 6 and 12 people and requires 14 lasagna noodles, chopped onions, garlic, 8 cups of vegetables, crushed tomatoes, and fresh basil. The cheese filling includes ricotta, parmesan, mozzarella, and eggs. The lasagna is assembled in a 13x9-inch dish and baked at 177°C for 35 minutes.

Beyond cooking, the centre offers a space for children to socialise with friends in a welcoming environment. The organisation also encourages donations and visits from Winnipeg residents to support its activities. The programme provides a chance for kids to learn valuable skills while enjoying a meal together. West Broadway Youth Outreach remains open to community involvement as it continues its mission.
