AI Psychologist Launched to Combat Gambling Addiction in Africa
Gamble Alert has launched an AI psychologist on its website to tackle gambling addiction. The tool can detect gambling harm and direct users to human support when necessary. Fisayo Oke, the organisation’s CEO, is now pushing for stronger responsible gambling measures across Africa’s iGaming sector. Oke has called for gaming operators to appoint responsible gambling reporting officers at a managerial level. These officers would monitor player welfare and ensure compliance with safety standards. He argued that such roles are essential for balancing innovation with player protection.
At a recent industry discussion, Oke stressed that long-term success depends on prioritising player health over short-term profits. He also noted that many African regulators lack the funding and technical capacity to keep pace with rapid advancements in gaming technology. Despite this, he believes both innovation and protection can coexist and are vital for the sector’s future.
Gamble Alert’s new AI tool reflects this commitment. It assesses user behaviour and steps in when signs of problem gambling appear. If risks are identified, the system connects users with professional help. The AI psychologist is now active on Gamble Alert’s platform. Oke’s proposals aim to embed player safety into the industry’s growth. His recommendations highlight the need for regulatory and technological solutions to support sustainable iGaming in Africa.
