Omsk's watermelon imports quadruple as fruit trade booms in 2026

Omsk has seen a sharp rise in fruit and vegetable imports since May 2026. Over 3,600 tons of produce have arrived in the region, with watermelon deliveries alone quadrupling compared to last year. Uzbekistan remains the main supplier of fresh produce to Omsk. China and Turkmenistan also contribute to the shipments. In the past month, traders brought in more than 152 tons of cherries and 140 tons of apricots.

Watermelon imports have surged, with over 1,000 tons delivered in May and June 2026. Prices for watermelons now average around 85 rubles per kilogram, though they often reach 100 rubles. Costs vary based on size and variety.

To manage the growing volume, Omsk customs expanded a warehouse by nearly 1.5 times. The addition of 2,800 square metres helps process the increased flow of goods. The expansion of storage space supports the rising demand for imported produce. Watermelon imports have grown significantly, and prices reflect the variety available. The trend shows a clear increase in fresh fruit and vegetable trade for the region.
