Hundreds of barbecue lovers gathered at Zestiny Farm in New South Wales to attempt a Guinness World Record. The event aimed to set a new benchmark for the largest barbecue lesson ever held. Organised by Alex 'Big Al' Horton, it also supported a food relief charity. The attempt drew 359 participants, breaking the previous record of 336 set in Kansas City in 2017. An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records oversaw the count and confirmed the new achievement. Chef Jamie Gannon led the lesson, guiding the crowd through the cooking process.
All barbecues used at the event were electric, powered by electric vehicles provided by BYD. The organisers, The Big BBQ team, now plan to host an even larger gathering. Their next goal is to bring together 50,000 people for the world’s biggest barbecue by attendance, surpassing Mexico’s current record of 45,252.
Funds raised from the event were donated to OzHarvest. The charity works to combat food insecurity across the country. The record-breaking lesson succeeded with 359 participants. The event also raised money for OzHarvest’s food relief efforts. The team behind it now looks ahead to an even bigger barbecue challenge.
