MasterChef's Steph De Sousa shares a heartfelt recipe for MND Awareness Month

Steph De Sousa, a MasterChef star and MND Australia ambassador, recently shared her late sister’s favourite apple sour cream slice recipe on The Morning Show. The dish was decorated with blue cornflowers to represent the strength of those affected by Motor Neurone Disease. De Sousa is actively supporting MND Australia as part of its Awareness Month campaign. The recipe begins with preheating the oven to 180C and lining a slice tin with baking paper. The base mixture combines 1 vanilla cake mix, 125g melted butter, and 1 cup of desiccated coconut. This is pressed into the tin and baked for 20 minutes before a layer of 400g canned pie apple is spread on top.

Next, a topping of 300g sour cream, 1 egg, and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon sugar is whisked together and poured over the apples. The slice is then baked for another 20 minutes and left to cool before being cut into portions.

To mark MND Awareness Month, MND Australia is encouraging donations of $50 or more during June. Donors will receive a packet of blue cornflower seeds as a gesture of appreciation. The apple sour cream slice was presented as a tribute to De Sousa’s sister and the wider MND community. Funds raised will go towards critical research and support services for those living with Motor Neurone Disease. The campaign aims to increase awareness and funding for the cause.
