From Las Vegas to Ivy League: How Two Scientists Are Shaping Medicine's Future

Angel and Lisa grew up in Las Vegas with a shared passion for science. Their early curiosity led them to pursue STEM education, each taking unique paths in research and advocacy. Both now aim to make an impact in medicine and public health. Angel and Lisa first discovered their love for science as children. Angel was drawn to questions about health and fairness, while Lisa found inspiration in Marvel’s Iron Man.

In 2021, Angel joined a virtual STEM programme to study biochemistry. Meanwhile, Lisa attended Purdue University in person for the same subject. Both had the chance to design experiments and engage in serious research.

Angel’s work on traumatic brain injury and cardiovascular health strengthened her application to Princeton. She plans to study for an advanced degree in public health and medicine at Yale. There, she will also launch the Global Health Reform Initiative (GHRI).

Lisa has already created organisations to empower young women and educate teens about diabetes. She now intends to study pre-med at Princeton, with a focus on biomedical innovation.

Both recognise that real science rarely succeeds on the first attempt. Students often have to reassess their assumptions and adapt. Beyond technical skills, their STEM experiences taught them teamwork and real-world problem-solving. Angel will pursue public health at Yale and lead her new initiative. Lisa will focus on pre-med at Princeton while continuing her advocacy work. Their journeys show how early passion and hands-on research can shape ambitious careers in science and medicine.
