Russia's cheese regions lure travelers with farm stays and tastings

Culinary tourism is growing rapidly in Russia, with cheese regions becoming a major draw for visitors. Local farms in these areas now offer tours, tastings, and hands-on workshops to attract travellers. Popular destinations include Krasnodar Krai, Adygea, Altai Krai, Vologda Oblast, Kostroma Oblast, Kaluga Oblast, and Moscow Oblast. Krasnodar Krai and Moscow Oblast alone account for 90% of all accommodation bookings in these regions.

Travellers typically book country houses 66 days in advance and apartments 46 days before their trip. Country houses usually host five guests, while apartments accommodate three. The average stay lasts four days, though visitors to Adygea and Altai tend to extend their trips.

According to Avito Puteshestviya, the average nightly rate for a rural stay is 10,700 rubles. Apartments cost around 4,000 rubles per night. Demand for rural retreats has increased by 14% compared to last year. The rise in culinary tourism highlights the appeal of Russia’s cheese regions. More travellers are choosing farm experiences, longer stays, and early bookings. This trend reflects a growing interest in local food and rural getaways.
