How a Thai wellness retreat sparked a lifelong friendship across continents
I first met Jon in 2020 at a wellness retreat in Thailand. He introduced himself on the first morning of the event in Phuket. We quickly bonded over shared activities during the week-long programme. Jon and I tried every activity together at the retreat. Our friendship grew stronger after that week.
In 2022, I met his wife and daughters during a trip to Dubai. We stayed in touch through regular Zoom calls during the pandemic lockdowns. Fitness challenges also kept us connected, including a global push-up challenge and our own burpee competition.
Jon suggested we try aerial yoga once, which I refused at first but later agreed to. In May 2023, he flew from Dubai to Phuket to meet me, even though it was the middle of the school year. We’ve also met on business trips, and I see him more often than some local friends. Our friendship began at a Thai wellness retreat and has lasted years. We’ve stayed connected through travel, fitness, and regular calls. The bond remains strong despite the distance.
