High Court upholds Sh600 million estate split in Kihika Kimani inheritance battle

The High Court has refused to review its ruling on the partial distribution of the late politician Kihika Kimani’s Sh600 million estate. Judge Samwel Mohochi allocated the largest portion to the first three widows and their 23 children. The case will return to court on 29 January 2026 for further mention. Judge Mohochi ordered the distribution of several properties, including farms in Muthengera, Roselyn, Shangilia, Marmanet, and Laikipia, as well as assets in Engashura. Margaret Wambui, Alice Mukuhi, Jane Wanjiru, and their children received the majority share of the estate.

Five other widows—Mary Wangari, Winnie Wanjeri, Charity Nyambura, Mirriam Warau, and Lucy Wangari—failed to provide proof of equal entitlement. Erishifa Wanjiru, Mukuhi, and Muthoni had challenged the distribution method and sought a review, but the court upheld its decision. Daniel Kimani also disputed the allocation of a 3-acre plot in Lanet, claiming ownership.

The court granted the five widows and their children a 45-day leave to appeal. The full estate has not yet been valued, and a final determination will follow after valuation. The High Court’s decision stands for now. The first three widows and their children retain the largest share of the estate. The case remains open for appeal and further valuation before a final ruling is issued.
