FrauenGeno cooperative fights to survive amid fading early support

The FrauenGeno cooperative in Wiesbaden is at a critical stage. Launched in autumn 2024 with strong initial support, it now faces challenges due to a lack of long-term commitment from its early backers. FrauenGeno began with ambitious plans to empower women through fair, socially insured jobs and co-ownership. Its original concepts included gastronomy, catering, and childcare services. By June 2025, the cooperative had grown to over 75 members, but understaffing in leadership positions slowed progress and decision-making.

Many early supporters showed sympathy but did not stay involved, causing disorganisation. To address this, the group is now considering a more practical approach. Instead of large-scale plans, they may start small by developing a sustainable prototype and then expand. This shift would involve building a clear structure with defined roles and regular meetings.
