Dénia's Pride Celebration Unites LGTBIQ+ and Mental Health Advocacy Under Proudly Mad

Hundreds of people gathered in Dénia’s Plaza del Consell to celebrate Pride under the banner Proudly Mad. The event formed the centrepiece of a month-long programme that included an exhibition, cultural activities, and a talk on mental health. The celebration was organised by Dénia Town Hall’s Equality and Diversity department together with local mental health charity AMADEM. Its slogan, Locura de orgullo, orgullo de locura, highlighted how prejudice harms both LGTBIQ+ individuals and those with mental health experiences.

The evening opened with music honouring LGTBIQ+ culture. Drag artist Liz Dust hosted the event, while comedian Cabrafotuda performed a satirical routine addressing discrimination. The night concluded with the official Pride manifesto being read aloud.

The initiative aimed to break down stereotypes and foster acceptance, linking the struggle for LGTBIQ+ rights with a call for better mental health awareness. The gathering reinforced the message that equality, respect, and understanding are central to Pride in Dénia. It also marked a continued effort to support both LGTBIQ+ and mental health communities through shared action and visibility.
