NDA secures landslide victory in Bihar elections with two-thirds majority
The Bihar assembly elections have concluded with the NDA securing a two-thirds majority. The alliance retained power by decisively defeating the Mahagathbandhan. The BJP emerged as the single largest party in the state. The ruling NDA performed strongly across the state. The BJP and JD(U) together achieved a nearly 85 per cent strike rate in the seats they contested. This dominance ensured their victory in the 243-member assembly.
Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party failed to win any seats despite securing a four per cent vote share. Kishor had previously announced he would leave politics if Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) won more than 25 seats. His party’s poor showing came as a setback.
A section of Jan Suraaj’s voters shifted to the NDA. Many feared the return of 'jungle raj' if the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan came to power. Polarisation in the Seemanchal region also influenced the outcome after a blast near Delhi’s Red Fort heightened tensions.
Allegations surfaced that the Nitish Kumar government spent Rs 40,000 crore of public money to sway voters. These claims added to the contentious nature of the campaign. The NDA’s victory cements its control over Bihar for another term. The BJP’s position as the largest party strengthens its role in the alliance. The election results mark a significant setback for both the Mahagathbandhan and Prashant Kishor’s political ambitions.
