Nowruz and Eid al-Fitr Unite in Nizhny Novgorod's Vibrant Spring Festival

A vibrant multicultural festival celebrating Nowruz and Eid al-Fitr recently took place in Nizhny Novgorod. Hosted by Minin University, the event brought together over 200 guests, including students, faculty, and representatives from diverse ethnic communities. The gathering highlighted the region's cultural ties with partners across Central Asia and the Far East.

The festival, titled Breath of Spring: The Culture of Nowruz, featured a mix of traditional activities. Attendees took part in decorative painting workshops, played folk games, and enjoyed a closing concert. The performance combined folk music with a shared sense of springtime celebration.

Victor Sdobnyakov, rector of Minin University, noted the rare overlap of Nowruz and Eid al-Fitr in 2026. He described the event as a symbol of unity between the two holidays. The university itself reflects this diversity, with students from 30 different nationalities. Olga Guseva, the regional minister of international and interregional relations, spoke about the festival's role in strengthening bonds. She stressed how such gatherings build neighbourly connections between Nizhny Novgorod and its strategic partners. The region currently collaborates with 12 countries in trade, industry, education, and culture. At the end of the celebration, organisers and participants received certificates of appreciation and commemorative gifts.
