York County food businesses face mixed results in latest health inspections

Several food businesses in York County have recently undergone health inspections, with most passing but a few facing violations. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's risk-based checks revealed issues at two establishments, while others met safety standards. Over 40 locations, including schools, cafes, and fast-food chains, were assessed since early February.

The Reverie Cafe of York failed its inspection after inspectors discovered foods being prepared in an unapproved private home. This violation led to an immediate mark against the business. Similarly, BBQ Cup LLC received a failing grade due to the owner's inadequate knowledge of food safety and incorrect answers to key questions.

Black Rail Pizzeria passed its inspection but was flagged for not having up-to-date laboratory results confirming the potability of its water. While this did not result in a failure, it remains a requirement for full compliance.

Among the businesses that passed inspections were well-known chains like Chipotle Mexican Grill, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Panera Bread. Schools such as York County School of Technology, York Suburban Middle School, and multiple elementary schools also met safety standards. Other passing establishments included Grocery Bargain Outlet, Sheetz, Burger King, and Rutter's convenience stores.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's process focuses on risk-based assessments, but no public records specify how many York County businesses have failed inspections since February 9 due to food safety knowledge gaps.

The latest inspections highlight both compliance and ongoing challenges in York County's food service sector. Two businesses failed due to safety violations, while others, including major chains and schools, met the required standards. Official records do not yet provide a full count of failures linked to food safety knowledge since early February.
