Vasily Yemelyanenko Cooks Up a Storm in Magadan with Kolyma's Finest Ingredients
Celebrity chef Vasily Yemelyanenko brought his culinary show Vasya Will Feed You to Magadan in April. The visit included a special cooking event where he prepared a large-scale gourmet dish using local Kolyma ingredients. A video of the trip was later released, capturing his meeting with residents at the Dyukcha ethnopark. Yemelyanenko teamed up with the head chef of Magadan’s Wild North restaurant to create the meal. Together, they cooked 200 kilograms of Magadan shrimp, a giant cauldron of pearl barley in bisque sauce, and roasted cauliflower. The dish was served alongside a hot beverage, all made from regional produce.
The Magadan stop marked the 27th city on his tour. At each location, the chef offered free tastings to locals. His journey through Russia aimed to showcase regional flavours and connect with communities. The footage of his Magadan visit was published a year after the actual event. It featured his interactions with Kolyma residents at the *Dyukcha* ethnopark, where he shared food and stories with attendees.
The video release highlighted Yemelyanenko’s efforts to promote local cuisine across Russia. His Magadan event drew attention to Kolyma’s unique ingredients and culinary traditions. The chef’s tour continues to bring regional dishes to wider audiences.
