Umi Brings Atlanta's Elite Japanese Dining to NYC This Summer

Umi, the upscale Japanese restaurant known for drawing Hollywood's elite in Atlanta, is set to open in New York City this summer. The new location at 63 Madison Avenue, near Madison Square Park, will bring its refined sushi and standout dishes to a broader audience in a 5,000-square-foot space designed by Gilles & Boissier.

The New York outpost will be led by executive chef Kazuo Yoshida, whose previous roles include Juku, 1 or 8, and Jewel Bako. He will work alongside chef Todd Dae Kulper, a long-time member of the Umi team, to perfect the restaurant's signature dishes. Diners can expect favourites like lobster toban-yaki, wagyu steak, and uni risotto, paired with an expanded drinks and sake menu.

The venue will feature a main dining room, a sushi bar, a private dining area, and an intimate omakase counter. Farshid Arshid and Charlie Hendon, the duo behind Umi's Atlanta success, aim to replicate the restaurant's celebrity appeal while keeping the atmosphere upscale yet welcoming. With its summer opening on the horizon, Umi is poised to become a sought-after dining destination in New York, much like its Atlanta counterpart.

The new Umi will offer a mix of refined sushi and bold dishes in a stylish setting. Its arrival in Manhattan adds another high-profile dining option to the city's culinary scene. The restaurant's team and design suggest it will quickly become a standout choice for both regulars and visitors.
