Tierra del Sol Wins Mexico's Restaurant of the Year for Mixtec-Inspired Cuisine
Tierra del Sol in Oaxaca has been named Restaurant of the Year by the Mexico Gastronomic Guide. The award follows its recent inclusion in the Michelin Guide Mexico 2025 as a Bib Gourmand recipient. Chef Olga Cabrera leads the restaurant, which celebrates traditional Mixtec cuisine with a modern twist.
The 12th edition of the Mexico Gastronomic Guide handed out 26 special awards to chefs, restaurants, and industry figures. Among the winners, Ángel Vázquez took Best Chef for his work at Intro and Augurio in Puebla. Taquería La Once Mil in Mexico City was named Gastronomic Phenomenon of the Year, while Bruna in Guadalajara earned recognition for the Best Dessert Menu.
Tierra del Sol stands out for its deep connection to Oaxacan traditions, particularly those of the Mixtec region. Chef Cabrera's dishes blend heritage with innovation, using ingredients sourced directly from local producers—especially women who preserve native corn and cacao. Beyond its menu, the restaurant promotes education and cultural awareness around Oaxacan gastronomy.
The Michelin Guide Mexico 2025 previously honoured Tierra del Sol with a Bib Gourmand distinction. This latest accolade from the Mexico Gastronomic Guide reinforces its growing reputation as a leader in ethical and culturally rich dining.
The awards highlight Tierra del Sol's commitment to tradition, sustainability, and culinary excellence. Chef Olga Cabrera's collaboration with local producers and her focus on Mixtec heritage continue to earn national and international praise.
