Three Tequilas Shine at 2025 Las Vegas Global Spirits Awards with Near-Perfect Scores

The 2025 Las Vegas Global Spirits Awards has recognised three standout tequilas in its latest blind-tasted competition. Judges awarded top scores to Espero, Emerald Spear, and Abuelitos—each earning over 96 points out of 100. The U.S.-based event, known for its rigorous evaluation by industry experts, also handed out 12 additional platinum medals in the Blanco category this year.

Espero Tequila took the highest honour, winning Best Blanco Tequila with a near-perfect score of 97. Produced by the Tanteo cooperative and Destiladora Juanacatlán in Jalisco, this additive-free spirit offers aromas of cooked agave, citrus oil, and cinnamon spice. On the palate, it delivers a clean, agave-driven taste with a medium-length, sweet finish.

Emerald Spear Tequila followed closely, scoring 96.1 points. Crafted in small batches by master distiller Sergio Cruz at Feliciano Vivanco y Asociados in Arandas, this Highland Blue Weber agave tequila features an herbaceous nose with fresh herbs, citrus, and roasted agave. Its crisp, fresh flavour profile highlights the region's signature Highland notes.

Abuelitos Tequila, a family-run brand from Amatitán, Jalisco, earned 96 points. Distilled at Proveedora y Procesadora de Agave Tres Hermanos, it presents an agave-forward aroma with citrus, olive brine, and minerality. The palate balances creamy sweetness with lime, green pepper, and a mineral finish.

The 2025 awards highlight the growing recognition of high-quality Blanco tequilas. Espero, Emerald Spear, and Abuelitos now join a select group of platinum-rated spirits from this year's competition. Their scores reflect the judges' focus on craftsmanship, flavour complexity, and traditional production methods.
