Team Tel Aviv wins culinary showdown with salmon creativity
A lively cooking contest took place recently, drawing inspiration from the Iron Chef TV show. Two teams of three faced off in a timed challenge, with salmon as the surprise ingredient. The event aimed to ease end-of-semester stress while encouraging creativity in the kitchen. The competition featured Team Tel Aviv and Team Strike Force, each tasked with crafting a full meal. Team Strike Force served a cheese sandwich with a side of chicken and bacon skewers, followed by a dessert mixing pomegranate seeds and gummy bears. Their bold approach earned them the win in the originality category.
Team Tel Aviv opted for a more traditional route. Their menu included zucchini and potato latkes topped with caramelised salmon, a salmon and chicken entree, and a mini dessert cake with cinnamon and caramelised salmon. Their careful plating secured them the presentation award, while their balanced flavours won the taste category—and the overall competition. Despite the pressure, participants described the experience as enjoyable. The winning team took home gift certificates from the Asian American Cultural Center.
The contest provided a fun break from academic stress, letting students showcase their culinary skills. Team Tel Aviv's victory in both taste and presentation made them the overall champions. Their prize included gift certificates, while Team Strike Force's inventive dishes earned them recognition for originality.
