Taqueria Extra Expands with a New Downtown Walnut Creek Cantina
Taqueria Extra is expanding with a new downtown Walnut Creek location. The popular Mexican eatery will move to 1359 Locust St, taking over the space once occupied by Fuego Tequila Grill. Owners have yet to confirm a full opening date for the upgraded venue. The new branch, named Taqueria Extra & Cantina, will build on the existing concept but in a larger, more central setting. It sits just a short walk from the current 1653 Mt. Diablo Blvd site. The Locust Street address offers better foot traffic and slightly improved parking options.
The menu will feature a wide range of Mexican dishes, from tacos and enchiladas to quesadillas, chilaquiles, and burritos. Birria and vegetarian choices will also be available. The addition of 'cantina' to the name hints at a shift toward a more full-service dining experience compared to the current fast-casual model. The move marks a step up for the business, bringing its well-known flavours to a busier part of town. While the exact opening date remains unconfirmed, preparations for the new space are underway.
Taqueria Extra & Cantina will offer a broader menu in a more accessible location. The upgrade includes a mix of familiar dishes and a possible shift in service style. Diners can expect the same Mexican favourites in a refreshed setting once the doors open.
