Swiss Teacher Wins Landfrauenküche with a Laundry-Themed Feast
Irene Meier from Alosen in the canton of Zug has won the 19th season of Landfrauenküche. The primary school teacher and dairy farmer stood out with a menu built around an unusual theme: laundry. Her inventive dishes and meticulous presentation impressed the judges in the finale. Meier's victory followed months of preparation. She collected ideas, sketched designs, and tested recipes to perfect her concept. Her husband, initially doubtful about her joining the show, later became her strongest supporter.
In the finale, she transformed an old washhouse into a dining space. Every detail—from decor to flavours—reflected her laundry theme. The judges praised her herb butter candle, a filet duo, and a dessert served in a laundry basket. Beyond the competition, Meier balances teaching and farm life. She and her husband manage around 55 milking cows, young cattle, fattening calves, and 280 laying hens. Her ability to blend creativity with careful planning played a key role in her success.
Meier's win highlights her skill in turning everyday themes into culinary art. The competition showcased her talent for originality and attention to detail. Her victory also reflects the hard work behind managing both a farm and a teaching career.
