Staten Island Ferry brings back alcohol sales with new snacks in 2025
Alcohol sales will return to the Staten Island Ferry from March 27, 2025. The move aims to improve the experience for millions of passengers who use the service each year. Beer, hard seltzers, and canned cocktails will all be available on board. The service will first launch on the MV SSG Michael H. Ollis ferry. In the following weeks, alcohol will also be offered on the Sandy Ground and Dorothy Day vessels. This marks the return of a service that was first introduced in 2019.
Passengers will now have more snack choices as well. Warm pretzels and popcorn will join the selection of refreshments available during the crossing. Before alcohol was first sold on the ferry in 2019, around 20 million people travelled on the route annually. The latest changes are part of a wider push to make journeys more enjoyable for commuters and tourists alike.
The expanded food and drink options will roll out gradually across the fleet. With beer, cocktails, and new snacks on offer, the ferry service hopes to attract even more passengers. The changes take effect later this month.
