Russian Sparkling Wine Stuns Judges at TERRAVINO's Global Competition
A Russian sparkling wine has taken the top prize at this year's TERRAVINO International Tasting Competition in Israel. The Brut d'Or Riesling (2022 vintage) from Abrau-Durso scored 93.67 points, earning the Grand Champion award. This marks the first time a Russian wine has won the competition's highest honour.
The 21st TERRAVINO competition, held annually since 2006, attracted 578 entries from 17 countries. Russia sent the largest delegation, with 110 wines from 18 producers. In total, Russian wines collected 42 awards: 11 Double Gold, 19 Gold, and 11 Silver medals—the best performance among all participating nations.
The event follows strict standards set by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), which has accredited competitions worldwide since 1924. Judges included winemakers, sommeliers, educators, and journalists from across the globe.
Israeli wineries also featured among the winners, with Somek Winery and Galai Winery receiving recognition. The competition, organised by the Yaffo Wine Culture Center, remains one of the most respected in the industry.
The victory of Brut d'Or Riesling highlights Russia's growing reputation in international wine circles. With a record number of awards, Russian producers have set a new benchmark at TERRAVINO. The results confirm the competition's role in showcasing emerging talent alongside established names.
