Russia's Vegan Alcohol Boom: 12 Certified Producers by 2026
Vegan alcohol certification is gaining traction in Russia, with 12 companies now certified by Roskachestvo-Vegan by the end of 2026. This trend reflects a shift in consumer habits, with ethical choices and niche preferences driving demand for vegan alcoholic beverages.
The first vegan certificate for alcoholic drinks was awarded on 18 February 2026 to Bashspirt JSC, which met strict criteria requiring no animal-derived ingredients or processing aids. Since then, certification has spread across regions, with Moscow leading at five companies, followed by St. Petersburg and Krasnodar Krai.
Not all alcoholic drinks qualify as vegan. Some fail due to production methods or specific ingredients, such as fining agents derived from animals. The certification process ensures transparency, helping consumers identify fully plant-based options.
The rise in vegan alcohol follows broader market trends. In 2025, sales of plant-based convenience foods and hot beverages saw significant growth. Ilya Voloshin, head winemaker at Belogorye Estate and enologist at Olymp Winery, noted that vegan wine certification often serves as a marketing tool rather than a fundamental production change.
With 12 certified producers by late 2026, vegan alcohol is establishing a presence in Russia's market. The certification process provides clarity for consumers seeking ethical products. As demand grows, more companies may adopt vegan standards to meet changing preferences.
