Rhenus Warehousing Solutions Installs 4,500-Square-Meter AutoStore System in Bolesławiec

Rhenus Launches Poland's Largest Automated E-Commerce Warehouse in Bolesławiec

The facility, designed to handle up to 1.8 million individual items, is among the largest of its kind in Poland and the second-largest within the Rhenus Group in Europe, according to the company.

A Key Component of Long-Term Automation Strategy

The investment marks another step in Rhenus's ongoing expansion of automated warehousing. Since deploying its first AutoStore system in the Netherlands in 2018, the company has steadily grown its network of automated logistics hubs, combining standardized technology with tailored adaptations to meet local requirements.

Each new installation deepens the company's expertise in automated systems, covering areas such as integration into existing warehouse layouts, connectivity with warehouse management software, and the coordination of manual and automated workflows.

"The AutoStore system in Bolesławiec is a custom solution for one of our established e-commerce clients," said Paweł Nowak, Country Director of Rhenus Warehousing Solutions Poland. "We are overseeing the entire implementation—from infrastructure setup and system configuration to defining warehouse processes. The goal is to enhance efficiency without disrupting the client's ongoing operations."

Phased Rollout with Adapted Processes

Implementation is proceeding in stages. Hardware installation began in March and will be completed in multiple phases, with finalization expected by summer. The system is set to become operational in autumn, with Element Logic serving as the integration partner responsible for technical execution.

Designed for e-commerce demands, the AutoStore system handles large inventories with high SKU diversity and rapid turnover. Operated on a goods-to-person principle, items stored in bins are automatically delivered to picking stations, eliminating much of the manual travel time within the warehouse while enabling parallel processing of multiple tasks.

The company reports that the system optimizes space utilization through compact storage and boosts throughput by allowing multiple robots to access the structure simultaneously. System-guided processes also improve picking accuracy.

Scalability is another advantage—the modular design allows for expansion, such as adding more robots or storage capacity, to meet growing demand.

A Hub for West European Distribution

The Bolesławiec site specializes in fulfillment services for international e-commerce projects, with its location making it ideal for serving Western European markets.

With the new system, Rhenus is increasing local capacity and adapting its infrastructure to accommodate rising online retail volumes while further integrating the site into its broader European network.
