Restaurants race to meet new protein guidelines with menu makeovers
New dietary guidelines now recommend adults consume between 1.2 and 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. In response, restaurants are adapting their menus to highlight protein content more clearly. Both plant-based and traditional eateries are making it easier for customers to track their intake.
Luna Grill has introduced several protein-focused dishes, including the Medi Macro Bowl, which packs 29 grams of protein and 11 grams of fibre. The chain also cooks lentils on-site, offering them in multiple meals as a plant-based protein source. To help diners make informed choices, their app now provides personalised protein recommendations and detailed nutrient breakdowns.
PLNT Burger, a vegan fast-casual chain, has rolled out a special 'Protein Boost' menu across its German locations. Highlights include the PLNT Power Burger, featuring pea protein and seitan for 45 grams of protein, and the High-Protein Bowl, combining tempeh, lentils, and quinoa for 50 grams. Even their Protein Shake Side delivers 30 grams of plant-based protein. The chain's standard double cheeseburger and fries already provide 38 grams of protein, proving plant-based meals can match traditional protein levels.
Both Luna Grill and PLNT Burger now display protein grams prominently on their menus. This shift reflects a broader trend, as restaurants serving animal proteins also begin listing protein content to meet growing consumer interest.
The updated dietary guidelines have pushed restaurants to adjust their offerings. Chains like Luna Grill and PLNT Burger now provide clear protein information, helping customers align meals with health recommendations. With plant-forward options gaining popularity, diners have more ways than ever to meet their protein needs.
