Restaurant's free meals bring comfort to grieving families on Mother's Day

A local restaurant is offering free meals to those grieving their mothers this Mother’s Day. Zane’s Italian Bistro launched the initiative after the owner shared his own loss online. The response has been overwhelming The idea came from Zane Anderson’s personal experience of losing his mother. He wanted to help others struggling with the holiday, so he opened his restaurant to anyone missing theirs. The offer runs until Saturday and has already drawn in many visitors.

For some, the restaurant has turned into a place of comfort. Dan Snider and his wife, Adrienne, visited after seeing Anderson’s post. Dan was raised by his adoptive mother, Jean, who took him in from foster care as a child. Adrienne, despite raising her own children and grandchildren, still finds Mother’s Day difficult. Anderson has also partnered with a local organisation to provide meals for around 35 mothers and families in need. Many who come share stories of how food connects them to their late mothers. The restaurant has become a space where grieving sons and daughters can find support. Dan Snider’s advice to others is simple: cherish every conversation and moment with loved ones while they’re still here.

The free meal offer has brought people together during a painful time. Hundreds have visited the bistro since the TikTok post went live. For many, it’s become a way to honour their mothers and find solace in shared grief.
