Rallo Delicatessen relocates to Budenheim with a bold gourmet vision for 2026

Rallo Delicatessen is moving from Mainz-Mombach to a new site in Budenheim. The popular Italian specialty shop will close its current branch at the end of 2023. Owner Gianluca Rallo plans to expand the business with a focus on gourmet offerings at the fresh location.

The grand reopening is set for Saturday, January 17, 2026, though initially in a temporary modular building. A permanent store is expected by late 2027 as part of a larger redevelopment project. The relocation was announced in 2024, marking the delicatessen's shift from the former Dyckerhoff industrial site in Budenheim. Since then, the area has undergone significant changes. Old structures were partially demolished, and environmental cleanup took place. Planning approvals were granted for a mixed-use development featuring commercial spaces, housing, and green areas.

Construction has begun, but as of April 2026, no major occupancy has occurred. The new address, Am Kalkwerk 2, will eventually host 372 residential units alongside businesses like Rallo Delicatessen. Budenheim's mayor, Stephan Hinz, has publicly welcomed the move, highlighting its potential to boost the local economy.

Gianluca Rallo aims to bring authentic Italian culinary culture to the region. The initial phase will operate from a modular building while the permanent location is completed. The final store is expected to open in late 2027, fully integrated into the redeveloped site. The closure of the Mainz-Mombach store by the end of 2023 will mark the end of an era for the business. The January 2026 reopening in Budenheim will introduce a new chapter, with a temporary setup leading to a permanent home. Once finished, the delicatessen will form part of a larger community space, blending retail, housing, and green areas.
