Portugal’s Alheira de Mirandela crowned the world’s best sausage in new ranking
This is the best sausage in the world - Portugal’s Alheira de Mirandela crowned the world’s best sausage in new ranking
A new ranking of the world’s best sausages has been released by food platform Taste Atlas. The list, based on 7,607 user reviews, highlights top picks from ten different countries. Portugal’s Alheira de Mirandela took the leading spot as the best sausage globally.
Taste Atlas filtered reviews to avoid local bias before compiling the final rankings. The winning Alheira de Mirandela is a smoked sausage made with pork, poultry, bread, and paprika. It is traditionally smoked over olive and oak wood, giving it a distinct flavour.
Poland’s Kielbasa Wędzona secured second place in the list. Spain’s Chistorra followed closely in third. Argentina’s Chorizo and Turkey’s Sucuk rounded out the top five. Germany had the most entries overall, with 18 sausages featured. Two of them made the top ten: the Nürnberger Bratwurst at sixth and the Thüringer Rostbratwurst at tenth. Other countries in the ranking included Romania, Italy, and Algeria, each contributing one sausage to the list.
The final ranking showcases a mix of traditional sausages from Europe, South America, and North Africa. Portugal’s Alheira de Mirandela leads the list, while Germany dominates in total entries. The results reflect a wide range of flavours and preparation methods from around the world.
