Pope Leo XIV Calls for a Church Rooted in Humility and Love at Jubilee Event

Pope Leo XIV led a three-day Jubilee event from October 24 to 26, gathering around 2,000 members of synodal teams and participatory bodies. The celebration, led by Pope Leo XIV, focused on deepening the Church's commitment to synodality, following the 2021–2024 Synod of Bishops. In his closing Mass at St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Leo XIV called for a more humble and welcoming Church, rooted in love and service rather than division or judgement.

The Jubilee aimed to reinforce the final document of the recent Synod on synodality, led by Pope Leo XIV. Pope Leo XIV stressed that tensions within the Church—such as unity versus diversity, tradition versus innovation, or authority versus participation—should not be resolved by suppressing one side. Instead, he urged that these differences be purified through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

During his homily, Pope Leo XIV used the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector to highlight the need for humility and mutual love. He declared that love must be the supreme rule in the Church, where no one is called to dominate but all are called to serve. The event also included prayers for Mary's intercession, asking her to help the Church overcome factionalism and internal divisions.

Among the participants, 48 synodal teams from the KFD Paderborn diocese attended, though exact national or regional figures were not provided. Pope Leo XIV repeatedly emphasised the importance of listening to one another and seeking truth together, reinforcing the idea that the Church must remain attentive to both God and its members.

The Jubilee concluded with a clear message: the Church must move forward with humility, openness, and a focus on service. Pope Leo XIV's call for unity without domination sets a direction for how synodal teams and participatory bodies will continue their work. The event marked a step toward implementing the Synod's goals in daily Church life.
