Pillsbury Launches Pistachio Cake Mix and Frosting for Baking Enthusiasts
Pillsbury has rolled out two new pistachio-flavoured products: Moist Supreme Pistachio Cake Mix and Whipped Pistachio Frosting. The launch taps into the growing trend for pistachio in desserts and baked goods. Both items are now hitting supermarket shelves across the US.
The cake mix keeps things simple, needing only water, eggs, and vegetable oil. The frosting spreads smoothly, making decorating quick and easy. Bakers can use the mix for sheet cakes, cupcakes, or bundt cakes.
Pistachio flavour has moved from niche to mainstream over the decades. It first appeared in US ice creams in the 1930s, then surged in the 1970s with increased imports. Social media trends since 2010—like pistachio rosewater and matcha-pistachio blends—have pushed it further into the spotlight. Recent standout products include Starbucks' Pistachio Cream Cold Brew, Dunkin' Donuts' Pistachio Swirl, and Lindt's Pistachio Intense chocolate bar.
The new Pillsbury items are already stocked at Walmart and H-E-B. More stores, such as Kroger and AWG, will carry them in February and March.
The pistachio cake mix and frosting join a long list of recent pistachio-flavoured releases. Their arrival reflects the flavour's rising popularity in desserts and baked goods. Shoppers can now find them in major grocery chains nationwide.
