Panasonic's Arc 3D map transforms in-flight navigation for 35 global airlines

Panasonic Avionics has expanded its Arc 3D interactive map platform, now used by 35 major airlines across over 1,000 aircraft. The system, first launched in 2019, has grown quietly—until now—with new features and wider adoption in global fleets.

Arc combines millions of satellite images from the European Space Agency's Sentinel programme with custom 3D graphics and gaming engines. This creates detailed, interactive maps for passengers during flights. Recently, Panasonic added live fleet tracking through a partnership with Flightradar24, giving real-time updates on aircraft positions.

The platform now includes customisable Airline Route Maps, letting carriers display their global networks. Accessibility improvements, such as adjustable text scaling and colour options, have also been introduced to assist visually impaired travellers.

New integration tools allow airlines and developers to embed Arc's map data into other passenger services. According to Andrew Mohr, vice president of digital solutions at Panasonic Avionics, the Arc map is often the second most-used in-flight entertainment feature—just behind new Hollywood films.

Arc's adoption spans multiple airlines and regions, though specific carriers and implementation details remain undisclosed. The platform's mix of real-time data, accessibility, and customisation continues to shape how passengers interact with in-flight maps. Further updates are expected as more airlines integrate the system.
