Nutella Peanut Debuts in the U.S. After 60 Years of the Classic Recipe

A jar of Nutella made an unexpected appearance during a NASA livestream from inside the Orion spacecraft. The moment brought free publicity to Ferrero, the brand behind the popular spread. Meanwhile, the company has just launched a new peanut-based version in the U.S., marking its first major Nutella variant in decades. Ferrero recently introduced Nutella Peanut, a new spread combining the classic hazelnut recipe with peanut butter. The product is now available across U.S. grocery chains, including Walmart. This marks the first new Nutella variant in over 60 years, designed to match North America’s strong preference for peanut butter.

Production for the U.S. market takes place at Ferrero’s Franklin Park plant in Illinois. The company invested $75 million (around €64 million) in the facility to support the launch. While Nutella Peanut is not officially planned for Germany, some retailers have begun importing it. Select Rewe and Edeka stores are now stocking the 371-gram jars, priced between nine and ten euros. The product’s surprise appearance in NASA’s Orion spacecraft during a livestream added to its buzz, giving Ferrero unplanned but valuable exposure.

Nutella Peanut has arrived in the U.S. as Ferrero’s first major recipe change in decades. Though not set for a German release, limited imports are already on shelves. The brand’s recent publicity boost—both from the NASA livestream and the new product—highlights its continued global appeal.
