Nottingham approves 297-bed student housing in Southside regeneration push
A new student accommodation project has received planning approval in Nottingham’s Southside Regeneration Area. The development, set for Traffic Street, will provide 297 bedrooms along with modern amenities. Construction is expected to begin in 2022 after the demolition of existing structures on site. The scheme will feature a mix of cluster apartments and studios across a five- and six-storey building. Designed by Brewster Bye Architects, the project aims to offer high-quality living spaces for students. The location places it within convenient reach of the city’s universities.
Currently, the site houses a parking area and two industrial units, both slated for demolition. Nottingham City Council reviewed the plans thoroughly and supported the successful planning application. Brendon Hutchinson, managing director of Urban Group (York) Ltd, secured the necessary approvals, while Andrew Chapman from Brewster Bye Architects guided the scheme through the planning process.
Once completed, the development will provide students with well-equipped homes and easy access to academic institutions. The project marks another step in the ongoing regeneration of Nottingham’s Southside area. Demolition and construction work are set to start in 2022.
