NEO Battery Materials Ltd. has teamed up with Zio Robot Co., Ltd. in a new technology partnership. The deal will see NEO's high-energy lithium-ion battery cells integrated into Zio's Mobile Worker (MW) series of autonomous mobile robots. Both companies plan to develop and test battery solutions for Zio's key partners, including Samsung Electronics.
The collaboration focuses on improving battery performance for Zio's MW robots, which currently rely on Chinese-made cells. NEO's technology aims to boost energy density and high-rate discharge capability, meeting the heavy demands of Zio's platforms. These robots handle payloads of up to 6,000 kilograms, requiring robust power, fast discharge rates, and long battery life.
Zio's MW series features a modular design, allowing units to connect or disconnect as needed. This flexibility cuts initial costs and supports customisation for different industries. Dr. Tae Hun Kang, Zio's CEO, believes NEO's batteries will give the robots an edge in logistics and pave the way for even higher-capacity models.
Spencer Huh, NEO's President and CEO, views the partnership as a chance to expand into physical AI applications. He highlighted growing demand for non-Chinese battery solutions in Western and allied robotics markets. The agreement is expected to enhance payload capacity and extend operational time for Zio's autonomous robots.
The partnership will deliver prototype battery systems to Zio's collaborators, starting with Samsung Electronics. Improved energy density and discharge rates should strengthen the performance of MW robots in industrial logistics. Both companies aim to meet the rising need for specialised, high-performance battery solutions outside China.
