Moscow's online retail boom hits $210 billion in 2025

Moscow's online retail market has surged in 2025, hitting a turnover of 19 trillion rubles ($210 billion). This marks a 14% rise from the previous year, with e-commerce now making up nearly a quarter of the city's total retail sales. Food, furniture, and clothing remain the most popular categories among shoppers.

The food sector leads Moscow's online retail, accounting for 28% of the market. Its turnover reached 531 billion rubles ($5.9 billion) in 2025, driven by a 24% growth in delivery services. Furniture and home goods follow at 16%, while clothing and footwear take up 13% of sales.

Russia's e-commerce market has expanded rapidly, growing 5.5 times since 2019. Total online sales climbed from 2 trillion to 11.5 trillion rubles over six years. Marketplaces dominate, responsible for 63% of all online transactions in the country. Local platforms have strengthened their grip on the market. Wildberries now holds over 50% of Moscow's online retail, up from 25% in 2021. Its monthly users doubled, rising from 15 million to 35 million. Ozon also grew, increasing its share from 20% to 30% and expanding its user base from 10 million to 25 million. Yandex.Market remained steady with 15–20% of the market and 12–18 million users. Meanwhile, international platforms like AliExpress saw their share drop from 25% to under 10%. The decline follows sanctions and stronger competition from Russian companies.

E-commerce now represents 25% of Moscow's total retail turnover, up from 22% in 2024. The shift reflects growing consumer reliance on online shopping, particularly for food and household goods. Local marketplaces continue to dominate, reshaping the city's retail landscape.
