Miranda do Corvo Hosts 'Birthplace of Chanfana' Gastronomy Week Through May 3, Featuring 15 Restaurants

Miranda do Corvo Honors Its Famous Stew With a Week-Long Feast

Miranda do Corvo is once again putting chanfana—the iconic slow-cooked goat stew—at the heart of national attention with its 'Birthplace of Chanfana' Gastronomy Week, running through May 3 across 15 local restaurants. The centerpiece of the event is the 'Great Chanfana Table', where the public is invited to bring their homemade chanfana to share in a communal feast. The gathering takes place on May 3 in Praça José Falcão, in front of the Town Hall.

The initiative calls on participants to prepare their own chanfana at home, gather with family and friends, and join a long communal table for an open-air celebration that turns the dish into a unifying force. Live entertainment will be provided by Ruizinho de Penacova.

Throughout the remaining days, the gastronomy week reinforces the themes of origin and authenticity. The event operates on a bold premise: while chanfana is enjoyed across Portugal, it is in Miranda do Corvo that its original version can be savored. For ten days, 15 restaurants in the municipality will offer a shared menu at €22, featuring a choice of 'Negalho' (garlic soup) or 'Wedding Soup' as a starter, chanfana as the main course, and 'Nabada' (a traditional bread-based dessert) or rice pudding for dessert—all paired with local wine and coffee for an experience true to tradition.

The week officially kicked off on April 23 with a gala at Semide Monastery, organized in partnership with the Coimbra School of Hospitality and Tourism. Beyond a celebration of food, the event stands as a tribute to local identity, community engagement, and the region's heritage, solidifying Miranda do Corvo's reputation as the definitive home of chanfana.
