Midnight Network Launches in Phases to Revolutionize Blockchain Privacy by 2026

A new privacy-and-identity network called Midnight is set to launch in stages, according to an announcement by Charles Hoskinson, CEO of Input Output Global. The project aims to give users control over their data while working alongside existing blockchains like Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin, and XRP rather than competing with them. The rollout will follow a four-phase plan. The first stage, liquidity and token delivery, begins on 8 December 2025, allowing initial trading and price discovery. This phase introduces Midnight’s dual-token system: NIGHT holders will generate DUST, a consumable token used for computational tasks.

A federated mainnet is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. This production environment will include mixed operators, preparing the network for broader use. Next, an incentivized testnet in the second quarter of 2026 will onboard stake pool operators and refine the final consensus protocol. The last phase will activate full mainnet consensus once the testnet proves stable. Midnight’s code governance will be managed by the Linux Foundation, overseen by a KPI-driven Midnight Foundation. The network’s core feature is selective data disclosure through zero-knowledge proofs, letting users share only what they choose. Hoskinson presented these details at the Midnight Summit, framing the project as an extension of existing blockchain ecosystems rather than a rival.

Midnight’s phased launch will start with token distribution in late 2025 and move toward a fully operational network by mid-2026. The project’s focus on privacy and interoperability could change how users manage data across multiple blockchains. Governance and technical oversight will remain under the Linux Foundation and the Midnight Foundation.
