Low-Alcohol Wines With Full Flavor Hit the Market at a Premium Price

A British winemaker has created a new range of low-alcohol wines that promise full flavour without the usual drawbacks. Tom Benn, a former music manager turned vigneron, launched Future Château in 2018 after years of research across three continents. His wines contain just 5% ABV—far less than standard options—yet keep the taste and structure of traditional varieties.

Benn spent five years perfecting a method to reduce alcohol content without relying on heat or chemicals. Many low-alcohol wines end up sweeter or higher in calories, but his approach avoids these issues. The result is a dry-tasting wine with minimal sugar and only 33 calories per 125ml glass—less than a third of regular wine's 100 calories.

A glass of Future Château also contains just 0.5 alcohol units, compared to 1.5 in conventional wines. The red option even retains proper tannins, a rarity for low-ABV wines, and the range includes whites and sparkling versions too. All are vegan and designed for extended drinking sessions without the usual aftereffects.

The main catch is the price. Future Château wines cost more than mid-range supermarket bottles, positioning them as a premium choice for health-conscious drinkers.

Future Château now offers a full selection of red, white, and sparkling wines at 5% ABV. Each glass delivers fewer calories, less alcohol, and no added sugars—while keeping the dry, structured taste of traditional wine. The higher price reflects the specialised process, but the range fills a gap for those wanting quality without compromise.
