London's historic Rising Sun pub shines as City AM's top pick

City AM has launched a new weekly feature to highlight the finest pubs in London's Square Mile and beyond. The first establishment in the spotlight is The Rising Sun, a historic Carter Lane venue recently crowned the best pub in the area by the publication's Toast the City awards.

The Rising Sun began life as a vintner's house in the 1720s before becoming a pub in 1831. Today, it blends Victorian gin palace charm with a bright, welcoming atmosphere. The walls are lined with vintage black-and-white photos of the City and old adverts, adding to its character.

Husband-and-wife team Sheila and Tony now run the pub, which serves a menu of toasties with fillings ranging from classic ham to spicy jalapeños and tuna. The background music—everything from Tom Jones to Fleetwood Mac and Red Hot Chili Peppers—plays softly, mixing with the lively chatter of patrons.

The City of London boasts over 200 pubs, making it the most drinker-friendly spot in the UK. City AM's new newsletter will regularly showcase standout venues, starting with this award-winning local favourite.

The Rising Sun's mix of history, hearty food, and relaxed vibe has earned it top honours in the Square Mile. As City AM's new series continues, more of London's best pubs will step into the limelight each week.
