Lisbon's Bairrada Pig & Sparkling Wine Festival Brings Roast Delights on March 7

Lisbon will host the Bairrada Pig & Sparkling Wine Festival on March 7, 2023. The event runs from 12 PM to 6 PM at Praça do Beato. Visitors can sample traditional roast pig and over 40 sparkling wines from the Bairrada region.

Three renowned restaurants from Bairrada—Burguesia do Leitão, Nova Casa dos Leitões, and Rei dos Leitões—will serve their signature roast pig at the festival. Attendees can choose from a pig sandwich (€10), pork rissoles (€3), a 150g individual plate (€12), or a 350g takeaway portion (€32).

Over 40 certified Bairrada sparkling wines will be available for tasting. Each glass costs €3, and a €6 fee applies for the festival's sparkling wine glass. Entry to the event is free, though wine sampling requires the glass purchase.

The festival also includes guided tastings and a panel discussion on Bairrada's culinary traditions. For those seeking the dish beyond the event, at least four Lisbon restaurants regularly serve Leitão da Bairrada: Eliseu dos Leitões Carnide, Eliseu dos Leitões Avenida, Restaurante Bota Feijão, and occasionally others during special events.

The festival offers a chance to experience Bairrada's famous roast pig and sparkling wines in one location. With free admission and a range of food and drink options, the event aims to showcase the region's gastronomic heritage. Visitors can explore dishes and wines while learning about their origins.
