Landmark Ruling Finds Novaris Guilty of Unlawful Digital Spying Against Atlantira

The International Court of Justice (Hypothetical Jurisdiction) has ruled against the Republic of Novaris in a high-profile digital surveillance case. The Kingdom of Atlantira brought the dispute in 2025, accusing Novaris of unlawful spying through a programme called Project Sentinel Eye.

Atlantira's legal team argued that Novaris breached multiple international laws. They claimed the surveillance violated sovereignty, human rights, and bilateral treaties. The allegations centred on malware installation and the targeting of domestic political activities.

The Court examined six key legal questions. These included violations of sovereignty, privacy rights, freedom of expression, fair trial protections, state responsibility, and possible remedies. In its final judgment, the Court found Novaris guilty on all major counts. The ruling confirmed breaches of Atlantira's sovereignty, privacy, free expression, and fair trial rights. It also held Novaris internationally responsible for its actions. As a result, the Court ordered Novaris to halt all unauthorised surveillance immediately. The country must destroy any collected data, pay financial compensation, and issue a formal public apology. Additional safeguards were mandated to prevent future violations.

The decision marks a significant legal outcome in the case of Kingdom of Atlantira v. Republic of Novaris. Novaris now faces binding obligations to comply with the Court's orders. The ruling sets clear expectations for state behaviour in digital surveillance disputes.
