L'Osteria Brings Italian Flair to Halle's Historic Market Square in 2026

A New Culinary Era Begins in the "City of Five Towers"

On March 26, 2026, at 4 p.m., Halle (Saale) will welcome its first L'Osteria, marking the dawn of a fresh gastronomic chapter in the heart of the city. Nestled right on the market square, within the historic walls of the former Kaufhof department store and just steps from Halle's iconic Red Tower, Italian joie de vivre is set to take center stage. The arrival of this renowned restaurant brand breathes new life into the building, transforming it into a vibrant space where guests can linger and savor the moment. Leading the team is General Manager Monty Wötzel, a passionate patron-turned-employee, who, alongside his 43-strong staff, will ensure every visitor leaves satisfied.

Strategic Revitalization and Long-Term Commitment

Halle was chosen deliberately as a location, perceived as young, dynamic, and economically robust. According to Julia Kirmse, Expansion Manager at L'Osteria, the central downtown spot was a key factor in the project, which has been in the works for roughly two years. "We needed a location right in the heart of the city, and as always, we aim to contribute to its vitality—here in Halle, that means helping revitalize the city center," Kirmse explains, underscoring the brand's investment in the former department store. The transformation of what was once the linen department has paid off, as evidenced by the stunning results of the extensive renovation—a process that typically takes L'Osteria a full year from signing the lease to opening its doors. The company prioritizes longevity over fleeting trends: "We're not a pop-up restaurant. We commit to our locations for the long haul to be there for our guests," Kirmse emphasizes.

A Hub for Culinary Delights in the Heart of the City

Boasting an unbeatable location, the restaurant is the perfect destination for a post-shopping pick-me-up, a business lunch, or a convivial evening with friends and family. Inside, the cozy, thoughtfully designed space seats around 180 guests. The outdoor terrace is equally inviting, offering room for nearly 190 more, surrounded by oleander and olive trees—an ideal setting for soaking up the spring sun with an aperitif. The interior has been tailored to the location, featuring premium materials like natural stone and wood. Warm red and brown hues, paired with strategic lighting, create an atmosphere that makes visitors—affectionately dubbed "Amici della casa" (friends of the house)—feel as though they've been transported to an Italian holiday.

Authentic Cuisine and Warm Hospitality

At the heart of the restaurant is the open kitchen, or "CUCINA," where every dish is prepared fresh. L'Osteria is famous for its "best of the best pizza"—a 45-centimeter-wide masterpiece that spills well beyond the plate and can even be ordered with different toppings on each half for sharing. The "Pasta d'amore" (pasta of love) meets equally high standards, crafted in the company's own Pastificio No. 12 pasta workshop in Nuremberg. The menu is rounded out with classics like antipasti, salads, and seasonal specials from the rotating "Menu della Casa." Coffee lovers are in for a treat, too, with beans roasted in-house at Bar Italiana.

At L'Osteria, the spirit of "Famiglia" (family) is paramount, fostering a lively and warm atmosphere. The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, guests can enjoy Italian hospitality until midnight, while Sundays and holidays see the doors open from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. With this new hotspot right on the market square, Halle gains a dynamic destination brimming with flavor and dolce vita.
