Kuwait secures landmark deal for Halal-certified Wagyu beef from Japan

Kuwait will soon welcome Halal-certified Wagyu beef from Japan after a landmark trade agreement was finalised. The deal, announced by Japan's Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Mukai Kenichiro, marks a new chapter in culinary and economic ties between the two nations. Wagyu, famed for its unmatched marbling and rich taste, is set to expand premium dining options across Kuwaiti markets.

The breakthrough came after months of negotiations, culminating in a meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah in September 2025. Both leaders highlighted the agreement as a sign of the deepening friendship and growing commercial exchange between their countries.

At a special event held at SAKURA Japanese Restaurant, representatives from Japanese exporting firms presented some of Japan's most prized Wagyu varieties. These included Omi Beef and Kurohana Beef, alongside A5 Wagyu—the highest grade of Japanese beef—featured in a live cooking demonstration. Guests also took part in a tasting session, sampling a range of Wagyu dishes prepared by expert chefs.

Ambassador Mukai praised Kuwait's discerning palate and enthusiasm for fine cuisine. He noted that the arrival of Wagyu would not only enhance dining experiences but also strengthen trade links and foster broader cultural and economic collaboration.

The agreement paves the way for Halal-certified Wagyu to enter Kuwait's market, offering new opportunities for Japanese exporters and local chefs. With premium beef varieties now accessible, the deal is expected to boost high-end dining while reinforcing the economic partnership between Japan and Kuwait.
