Krasnodar's Comfort Food Trends Reveal a Shift in Local Tastes
Residents of Krasnodar are finding comfort in food, with clear preferences emerging in recent months. While some turn to childhood treats or hearty meat dishes, others favour seafood, sweets, or even Asian flavours. A new survey reveals how local tastes are shifting with the seasons—and what brings people the most joy at mealtime.
More than half of those surveyed—51%—said seafood lifts their spirits. Lightly salted fish, shrimp, and scallops remain firm favourites, alongside fish roe. Meanwhile, 45% lean toward meaty meals, with beef steaks and cutlets leading the way.
Sweets also play a big role in boosting moods. Cheesecake sales jumped by 11% in March, while éclairs saw an 8% rise. Overall, 43% of locals admit they reach for desserts when they need a pick-me-up. Asian ingredients are gaining ground too. Dried soybean sprouts, curry paste, and glass noodles have seen a 14% sales increase, though only 12% of respondents listed Asian cuisine as their go-to comfort food. No recent data tracks demand for these items over the past two years, leaving their long-term trend unclear. For some, nostalgia wins out. One in ten locals now turns to childhood staples like glazed cheese curds, stuffed pies, and cottage cheese rings—sales of which have climbed 6% since winter. Others find brightness in citrus, with a quarter of residents enjoying mini-mandarins and kumquats. Healthier choices also matter, as many prefer nutritious, refined meals over sugary drinks or snacks.
The survey highlights a diverse range of comfort foods in Krasnodar. Seafood and meat dishes dominate, but sweets, Asian flavours, and nostalgic treats all have their place. With seasonal shifts influencing buying habits, local markets are adapting to meet these changing tastes.
