The Final April Weekend Approaches with a Host of Events in Koblenz and the Region
Koblenz gears up for a packed weekend of markets, races and festivals
From Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26, there's something for everyone—whether you're a gardening enthusiast, a motorsport fan, or a connoisseur of fine food and drink.
Koblenz Garden Culture: Season Opening at the Deutsches Eck
To kick off the season, Koblenz's garden culture initiative invites visitors to the meadows at the Deutsches Eck. With the Electoral Palace undergoing renovation, the event—just as last year—will take place behind the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument. The official opening by Lord Mayor David Langner begins at 1 p.m.
Guests can explore a garden market featuring rare and new plant varieties, a gourmet market, and a bonsai exhibition in the flower courtyard beside St. Castor's Church. The city's "plant doctors" will offer gardening advice, while the BUGA Friends group hosts a plant swap. Entertainment includes stilt walkers, a magician, and crafts and games for children. Admission is free.
Food Truck Festival in Mayen & Village Flea Market in Winningen
From Friday to Sunday, Mayen's market square transforms into a food truck mile, with numerous vendors serving up culinary specialties. Live music will accompany the street food festival, and shops in the city center will stay open until 6 p.m. on the extended Saturday.
On Saturday, April 25, Winningen will be all about bargains and hidden treasures. Under the motto "Doors Open—Treasure Out," the village flea market runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with over 50 stalls spread across 40 locations. A cake sale at the primary school will ensure no one goes hungry.
Sustainable Swapping in Koblenz: Books and Clothing
For those who prefer swapping over shopping, Koblenz's multigenerational center at Thielenstraße 13 hosts a book and clothing exchange on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitors can bring well-preserved books and clothes to trade for new favorites. Even those arriving empty-handed are welcome to browse and take items home. Any unclaimed pieces will later be donated to charity.
Motorcycle Season Opener at the Nürburgring & Motocross in Winningen
On Sunday, April 26, the Nürburgring hosts "Anlassen," one of Europe's largest motorcycle gatherings and the traditional season opener. Organizers expect thousands of bikers to attend. Entry to the paddock is free, with the program kicking off at 10 a.m. with a trial show and safety demonstrations. The emotional highlight is the ecumenical service at 2:30 p.m., followed by the spectacular motorcycle parade along the legendary Nordschleife at 3:30 p.m.
For those who prefer mud and adrenaline, Winningen's motocross event near the airfield runs all weekend. With over 150 registrations, races will take place on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's races start at 1 p.m., while Sunday's begin at 12:30 p.m., featuring rounds for the Rhineland-Palatinate/Saar Championship and the Southwest Cup.
